As far as I use osaka 12 from carbon-font, the bold faces look fine.

Could you check if your carbon-font.el is the latest? I use the  
latest files at http://cvs.sourceforge.jp/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/ 
macemacsjp/fixed-width-fontset/.
